*sigh* So this is what you get for minimum wage labour, amirite? Nah, the little fairy girl tried her best, although she’s obviously new to the job. Oye…interns. ;3
This comic is an incredibly silly take on the coming of the Worgen. Way back when, when I was going through WoWwiki, I came across the Worgen page. Reading about it, the first thing I thought was “Man, that seems like a pretty asshole thing to do. Thanks, Elune! D:” I realize dieties have a sense of humor, but…Goddamn! That’s like opening the Dark Portal when someone prays that they want their apartment cleaned faster.
Also, any lore-nuts or Nelf RPers – please don’t kill me! D; This is my own rendition of Elune – I’m sure she’s much nicer and more god-like face-to-face. >_>;
Also, regarding my ‘race/class rant’: if you follow me on Twitter, then you no doubt saw me pitch a fit over such speculated race/class combos such as the ‘Night Elf Mage,’ and the dreaded ‘Tauren Paladin.’‘ I won’t get into it, but long story short, I think much of this is a huge slap in the face to lore. The only point it serves is to continue to placate the forum trolls who are too lazy to click the ‘Create Character’ button and roll something else. I’m far too tired to get into it right now, but…yeah. It wasn’t pretty. That being said, I’m not going to quit the game or anything like that…BlizzCon is a week away, and I want to hear this out of the horse’s mouth. If Tauren Paladins do get comfirmed? ….Then I am going to take a deep breath, a stiff drink, and see if the lore team hasn’t totally blown it.
Sorry again about the lack of comic-ness last week – that crazy project is done, so things should go back to normal.
In udder news (see what I did there? That’s genuine cow humor!):
- Happy birthday, Cru the Dwarf! Our favourite perpetually-horny dorf is in a bit of a pinch IRL, so I’m sure it would make his birthday a bit better if you swung by his site and donated a bit to his cause. His site has babes! Who doesn’t like babes?
-During BlizzCon, Stompalina’s Rawrcast podcast is going to be staging a swag-bag giveaway! I’ve actually donated a set of signed prints, so enter in and see if you can grab some! Good luck!
I’m actually going to be ballsy and enter this comic into the official World of Warcraft.com monthly comic contest. I know I’m not going to win, but hey, I can’t say I didn’t try.

Doesn’t hurt to try! My fiance got a honorable mention in it. Don’t be discouraged if it takes a while, though. Her honorable mention didn’t come until over a year after the comic was submitted.
Considering how awesome your facial expressions have gotten as of late, along with the nice flow your artwork has, I’d say you have a pretty good chance.
this made me LOL so hard!!!! elune is drawn very well. so pretty^.^
A lot of the new class combinations do have some lore behind them; from what I remember, night elf mages are essentially the Highborne from some of the kalimdor areas, and the Tauren paladin seems to match that new “Sun Druid” quest thingy.
Remember, sun durid is 4 holy lite!
You know, there’s nothing confirming that it was really Elune that answered Velinde’s prayer. Not like the scythe was labeled “Scythe of Elune” when it appeared, after all. :O
I would be the first in line to buy an Assistant of Elune plushie.
Just sayin’.
Very good comic – I’m also very disappointed with the lore leaks, and hoping against hope that Blizzcon will prove them wrong. The only good thing about the new class/races combinations is the inevitable surge of “holy cow” puns. Then again, maybe not…
(you did misspell “deity” in the last panel, though!)
Good luck with the submission
By the way, while I do agree that some of the race / class combos are quite bleh. I’ll be happy as long as Belves get Warriors
I call shinanegans on that there rooster of new classes. I believed Human Hunter, Grizzly Hills is full of them, Night elf mage I could BARELY see (Though the fact that what seperated the Night Elves and Blood Elves was in FACT the mage class makes one question ‘huh?!’), but as soon as I saw “Dwarf Shaman” I just broke the tie to belief of that.
Sorry, unless I see Blizzard slap down physical proof of this new change I’ma slap anyone in the face whom believes that ENTIRE list is in any way possible. Some, maybe, but all? No.
imo Dwarf Shaman is more likely than Night Elf Mage.
The entire reason there are Night Elf Druids, and Night Elves separated from Blood Elves, is that night elves were the responsible ones and swore off Arcane magic. So they’d never be mages.
Dwarves…. in some ways dwarves have a lot of ties to the Earth, and Wildhammer dwarves have some druidism going, and there’s even fire with the dark iron dwarves. So they’re capable of shamanism. The biggest thing I have against Dwarf Shamans is that, the dwarves tend to be destructive of the earth- mining it, digging for artifacts. Methinks the elements would take issue there.
Dwarves were once sculpted from earth by the Titans. Earthen (dwarves prior to the Curse of Flesh or not affected by it) are simply walking hunks of rock. The PC dwarves even get Stoneskin, which temporarily gives them rock-like skin. I think that gives them quite a connection with the earth spirits. Wildhammer dwarves, however, have a deep affinity for the sky. Dark Iron dwarves, as mentioned, have a connection with fire and molten rock thanks to Ragnaros. Colderra, the final major offshoot of the Earthen, have a link with ice (and thus, indirectly, water).
Orc mage makes quite a bit of sense, actually, as does the human hunter, troll druid, gnome priest, and even blood elf warriors and undead hunters. Granted I’m not quite happy with undead hunters, as a living animal that allies itself with the undead would be rare (save for bats, carrion birds, and the occasional animals with undead/diseased skins).
Dwarf mage, Tauren Priest, Tauren Paladin, and Night Elf Paladin seem a little… out of place, though. Individuals of those races might follow those paths, but I can’t see any of them making an entire guild for the teaching of such.
Hear hear, sister!
Don’t succumb to the forum trolls that want to play a different race/class that takes the game canon and flops it on its ear… and then curb-stomps it into submission…
The NE *severed* their link to the magic of the world… thousands of years ago… THAT, kids, is canon.
High Elves are *NOT* Night Elves… that, too is canon.
Dwarves are a created race (by the Titans)… and have a connection to the Light… but that does *NOT* make them a spiritually-connected-to-the-elements race. I *can* see the Dwarf as a Shaman… but that will require a LOT of retroactive screwing-with-established-canon that really isn’t necessary.
(Read: a complete and utter waste of time better spent on other facets of the game)
The Tauren are a deeply spiritual race… closely tied to the Earth Mother and the power of nature… which Paladins are *NOT*… THAT is canon.
Blizzard, stop screwing with the game to appease a bunch of pre-pubescent whiners, plz, kk, thx, bai!
@Faldrath: I have already sworn to murder any and all players of a ‘Holycow’ alt.

http://www.wow.com/2009/08/18/a-discussion-in-defense-of-new-race-class-combinations/
Please read that before coming back. I happen to agree with that article when if comes to the rumors of the new class combos. I guess I could copy the list and give my own take on all of them…
# Human Hunter
The alliance found a rather large group of human hunters and trappers in Northrend, so I see no reason why some would not want to flee Northrend and the undead, and then teach the other humans what they do.
# Undead Hunter
I find it very cool that all the classes undead can be, humans can be also, except for paladins. Which makes sense, since… well, they are all dead humans. At least, most of them are. Also, they happen to have the absolute BEST former human ranger in their ranks, AND their leader is the best of her former race as well. Why in the hell can’t the undead learn the way of the bow?
# Orc Mage
Most races seem to go from arcane study to demonic, rather than the other way around. But it makes sense to me that, if you can go one way, why not the other? Probably be seen as a lot SAFER that infernal magic.
# Night Elf Mage
This seems to get a lot of people riled up, but remember: There are still Highborne in the game. Not Blood Elves, not High Elves, Highborne. It seems like they are setting it up so that, instead of the Night Elves going back to reckless magic users, they will try to teach them moderation [ a lesson they have probably learned by now], and not leave that one part of their knowledge dangerously lacking.
# Dwarf Mage
Wierd piece of trivia: Back in the beta, dwarves could be mages. Hence why you see so many of them running around in Blackrock Depths. But apparently, that was taken away due to balance concerns. Now, I see no reason for them to learn how to be mages again. Heck, for all I know, the mage trainers could be reformed Dark Irons! It’s been hinted that Blackrock Mountain blows up in Cataclysm, so who knows.
# Blood Elf Warrior
Only reason why this don’t exist now is that in BC, races could only have 6 classes. So, either these or hunters got the axe. The designers felt that hunters made more sense. So… now they are back!
# Dwarf Shaman
One of two routes: either it’s being taught by the Wildhammer [which are described as very much shamanistic already], or by the earthen [which are very connected to the elements, since... well, they are MADE out of them]. Though the second one gives me the amusing mental image for the earth totem quest: talk tot eh trainer, who askes you to seek out an emissary of elemental earth… who then turns around, puts on a mask, then talks to you again.
# Tauren Priest
Again, the rumor is connected to that new dialoge somewhere in Mulgore, about how Night Elf druidism is the worship of Apa’ro [the moon], and they are leaving An’she [the sun] woefully understated. So, if sun worship is sufficiently close enough to being straight holy energy, I’m for it.
# Tauren Paladin
Same as above, except now in kick ass plate. I also like the idea of tauren having access to all of the tank and healing classes, which in my eyes are the most… selfless of roles. Which really fits the cultural ideals of Tauren, in my eyes at least.
# Gnome Priest
This is actually probably the one that is the hardest for me to understand, but remember again, the Gnomes got a HUGE revelation about their origins in Wrath. Maybe enough to start a new religion, perhaps based around the mere IDEA of IDEAS.
# Troll Druid
Think of all the troll bosses you have ever fought. Now remember how many of them turned into animals, in same way, shape, or form. …yeah, I through so. Troll mysticism would approach druidism from a different angle, but I definitely see it as workable. Of course, right now, I’m hoping they rename Bear, Cat, Moonkin, and Tree forms into something more like the druid Travel or Flight forms. Something like… Protector, Assault, Mystic, Rejuvenating? Who knows. I just like the idea of trolls turning into something other than bears and cats.
…man, that was long. And Cadistra, I cannot read your rants, since I can’t see your tweets. I guess if I want to, I need to sign up, or something?
Honestly, Tauren paladins and priests make the most sense, next to dwarf shamans. Since tauren are keepers of of balance, wouldn’t the pure moon magic of night elf druidism kinda throw that outta whack? By honoring the sun, instead of the light specifically, they can gain light given power, since the suns emates, well, light. And the sun is natural, too, so no argumentson that.
Also, dwarves came from being rock. Can’t get much closer to the elements then that.
